Seeing the world, locally

What a lovely day. I went down to Junction oval today to see the Vic cricket boys take on the World team. Since the Ashes (as with many others I"m sure) I've been in awe of Freddy Flintoff the cricketer, and the person. Seeing him in person today has made my opinion of him leap even higher. I was disapointed he didn't play in the game today, but his demeaner around the team and around the crowds was lovely to watch. He had a hit in the nets with half the crowd watching during the lunch break and I was lucky enough to squeeze in directly behind him for the perfect view. He just takes everything in his stride and it would be hard to fluster him. Although his quick glances up to the crowd as he walked back to take his stance and did reveal a little bit of uncertainty in his eyes about the attention he was receiving. He deserves the title of best player in the world at the moment, and I hope it stays that way for a while. He's just such a gentlemen, he doesn't stuff around with the fans, gives them a wink, a chat, or an autograph. But if he's got a job to do, or needs to focus on his game he doesn't tease them or snob them, he just runs on by to get on with his responsibilities.

I do also love Kevin Pieterson. I think the media are too harsh to highlight his flamboyancy and wrongly label it arrogance. He's just a boy loving playing cricket. He's the first bloke to pat a teammate on the back, give a few words of encouragement, and celebrate a wicket. Same with Freddy, I think they compete to who gets there first. These two guys are the reason England have the ashes, and all I can say is bloody good on them as they deserve everything that comes their way. It was great to see them up close in person today, along with Lara's swagger, Dravid's class, and Aktars -hmm don't know what to call it really, it goes from nuffynes, to being a fool, to a great bloke all withing the same 30 minute period.

cheers,

Ingrid:)
