Open Miking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Monday 1st of August Megan and I will be returning to Wesley Anne and another open Mic night!! Six weeks has just flown since we have last performed so we are looking forward to it. I'm excited as my second most recent song 'Jaded' will be making it's debut. We will be playing Pete and Missy (as per normal, I think it would be against our music religion to play a set without either of them featuring). Bring it on.

Watch out Kiddies

Well it's the early hours of the morning and still a while to go before I get some sleep. I still haven't learnt from high school and Uni that it is best to get work done well before the due date to avoid all nighters, or in my case tonight 'half an all nighter'. So yeah, watch out tomorrow kiddies because there will be impatient Ingrid for the day, or potentially hyperactive Ingrid after 2 V drinks in the morning. Some have experienced the unfortunate effect of that previouly!!! I have learnt never to have a V drink (or three) before a cricket game ever again.

Anyway I'm in the process of doing the finishing touches on two songs that I'm entering in a song writing contest. I'm pretty happy with how they have come up, but it's always the finishing touches that are the killer. I must thank Elsa and Leonie who through the world of MSN and mobile phones stayed up to the early hours of the morning to help me out with their creative biography writing and constructive listening skills. Between them they saved me 4 hours of work. Greatly appreciated.

I'm great at procrastination (did I really need to blog then)

hmm

cheers,

Ingrid:)

Does anyone else write to the papers

I am beginning to think that not many people write a letter to the editor of the paper as I got published for the 6th time today after 6 attempts. Was pretty tame this time as it was just a comment about the cricket.

"Cricket fans, please remember that the SBS is doing us a favour by showing the cricket on free to air TV. An interrupted coverage during the first test, due to their pre-existing commitment to the Tour de France, is better than seeing none at all."

cheers,

Ingrid.

Short tempered Weekend.

What a foul weekend I am having. You know when your patience is thin, and tolerance low there are times when it's just best to stay in your own room to avoid fighting or swapping harsh words with anyone. I think I'm having one of those weekends. But modern technology means that even when I do that I can still fight over the internet on MSN. If only I had the self control to avoid the internet at times like these!

Anyway aside from that things are ok. I'm sure once Monday comes I will put the weekend behind, and hopefully mend a few of the friendships that have been hindered in the past 48 hours.

But it's also when I'm in moods like this when I'm most productive as I try to find an outlet to use all this angst energy towards. I am entering a song writing contest and have been doing some final recording this weekend for it. They provide a bit of feedback on the songs so I'm looking forward to that.

But I do wish that there was space in Anthonys room to set up the drum kit. There's nothing like bashing on the drum kit making a lot of noise to calm down.

cheers,
Ingrid:)

Victorian Teacher games training Day 1

As I am now technically a teacher I am able to participate in the Victorian Teachers games this year up in Wodonga! Since I have stopped training with cricket I've been a bit slack on the exercise so thought this would act as good motivation. I have decided to enter the 10km run and possibly golf, table tennis, maybe some lawn bowls or ten pin bowling too. I am trying to con my teacher Mum into competing in the 4km walk but it might be just abit soon after her hip replacement, doesn't hurt to ask. From the above list it's obvious there is only the one event that will take much physical effort to complete. I have completed a 10km run before but that was about three years ago after a full pre-season of cricket fitness training, so it will be a bit harder this time.
I went on my first training run today and took my ipod along to suss out some good running music. The last 10km run I did took me 63 minutes. So I'm thinking I will need a good 15 songs to listen to while I'm running up in Wodonga. Songs that worked today were Avril Lavignes' Skater Boi' and abit of techno from Alice Deejay, one that didn't work was Bryan Adams and "Everything I do I do it for you", I think i nearly slowed down to a walk during that so I skipped it before I stopped!
My task for the next few weeks is to get a good playlist together for the event come late September. Any running music suggestions will be very much welcomed!!

cheers,
Ingrid:)

5/5

Dads not talking to be now as I got my fifth letter to the editor in both the Saturday Herald Sun and the Age today.

The Age, Herald Sun, 23rd July

Insensitive PM

As I have family and friends in London, I watched the broadcast about the July 21 bomb attacks with interest. In the initial media conference, in which Tony Blair gave the first details of the attack, John Howard was invited to respond. After he expressed his shock, he moved on to congratulating London on its 2012 Olympics win, while also mentioning that he hoped there would not be too many other English victories in the future (in obvious reference to the cricket).

I am embarrassed that Mr Howard expressed such insensitivity. Surely the press conference was an appropriate forum to simply express Australia's concern and offer to help London, rather than involving cricket and a cheap swipe at England in this difficult time.

Ingrid:)

By Popular Demand

Well now it's 4 letters published out of 4 written to the editor and by popular demand here they are!

Friday 24th June
The Age, and The Sun

'Bullying Worse than Nudity'
The publicity surrounding Big Brother Uncut focuses on the wrong issue. At a late timeslot, people should be able to choose to watch the uncut version, prepared for it's MA rating. Of greater concern, as evidenced on WEdnesday's 7pm edition, was the bullying of a sleep-deprived housemate, Vesna.
She was ridiculed by other housemates after telling them she was close to a nervous breakdown and watnted to be left alone. She retreated, crying, to her bed while the other housemates exclaimed excitedly that "she's about to crack" and planned their next move to disturb her.
Not only was this shown on the 7pm show but Vesna featured in hte promo for the following night's show, when viewers were urged to tune in to see if she would break down under the strain. With the increased publicity surrounding depression and bullying in our schools and workplaces, I found this of greater concern than any nudity shown at a later time.

Herald Sun ~29 June

I buy a Met ticket every time I travel on public transport. I would feel guilty if i did not.
The present expensive advertising campaign aimed at the conscience of fare evaders is not going to make them buy a ticket or increase their guilt when they fail to do so. That same money spent on improved services and more staff to man stations is the only thing that wil make a difference.

Sydney Morning Herald
`Wed 6th July
I'd much rather spend taxpayers' money helping Schapelle Corby's devence team than helping John Howard to live it up in England watching the cricket with his entourage ( Radio reports documented up to 20 seats were requested in the coming Test Series!)
Taxpayer' money gets wasted in many ways; I think money spent on Corby is necessary, and part of the assistance the Government will offer any Australian citizens in need of help overseas.
The Age
Monday 19th July

Contratulations to the AFL for zero tolerance on talking back to umpires. Maybe - after Hewitt V Coria in the Davis Cup - the International Tennis Federations could pass a similar rule.

and the unedited version in the Sun, 20th July
Congratulations to the AFL for introducing the zero tolerance policy on talking back to umpires.
Maybe the INternatoinal Tennis Federation could investigae a simliar rule that deducts points if players consistently abuse/question the umpire's decision.
Who would have thought that watching the Hewitt V Coria Davis Cup match would invovle more abuse than all eight games of AFL footy combined at the weekend?

there we go
cheers,
Ingrid:)

PS. The offical Devon st publishing war has started at home with Dad sending a letter to The Age today trying to catch up with me. We'll wait and see!

Countdown to September

What a great weekend, the catters are back in town!! If the Grand Final could be held down in Geelong then they should engrave the premiership cup now. Alas it is not, so we will wait and see.
Mum comes home from hospital tomorrow which will be great. She is up on her feet (and two crutches) and doing laps of the ward and going up and down steps with ease. It will be nice to have her home again and I'm sure she is looking forward to that as well. I don't think my cooking will be up to the hospital food standard, that was absolutely unreal! I nearly asked if they could make me dinner too. On par with the Old England menu for sure.
Oh and I'm going for 4/4 letters published to the editor tomorrow! Fingers crossed.

cheers

All good news

Mum had her second hip replacement today and it went really well with no problems. I visited her earlier tonight and she was looking great and looking forward to pain free walking very soon.

I also had my first day as a keyboard teacher today and it went really well, fun times ahead.

cheers,
Ingrid:)

Another Dido DVD release date passes by

The talented dido on guitar in concert Posted by Picasa

Dido is my absolute favourite singer (at the moment....ie time of this post). I was lucky enough to see her live in concert late last year and it has left a lasting and strong impression on me. So much so that I have been counting down the days until the release of her "live" Dvd for months. The first release date I saw was in early May, but then realised it was the overseas release date :( The Australian release date in early June came and went with no DVD in the stores and a new date set for mid June. That date passed by and the DVD release postponed until July 4. That date once again has past and I'm told now it will be out on August 8th. Lucky she is worth waiting for or I would have cracked the shits by now. Instead of cracking the shits I'll put up a photo of her and start my countdown again.
cheers,
Ingrid:)

Cringing Reflections and Predictions

Today I was reflecting on things in the past I cringe about now. Like clothes I have worn, poor decisons, previous music tastes, purchases, etc etc. All the things I look back and go 'what was I thinking!!'. ' How could I wear/do/buy/say/support that,' etc etc.
That thinking led me to look around my room and try to predict what things I will look back on in five years and go what the hell was I thinking when I was 23 !!' It will be interesting to find out.
cheers,
Ingrid:)

Half way through 2005 already.

Happy new financial year! Not that it means too much to me at the moment, but thought it was timely for a new post. I've been in hibernation for the past week since my shopping spree using my recently acquired recording equipment and program on the computer. I don't think I'll ever get sick of this, but I will try to leave my room occasionally!! I've been arranging my songs with a drum beat from the computer, then adding my own bass playing, guitar, percussion egg, some keyboard and even dabbling in some harmonies whilst singing. Every time I record something I learn a new twist to the program and get all excited. I'm easily excited by music really.

I did actually leave the house today for my first day of keyboard teacher training. I met all the other new teachers for the term and got a run down of the program expectations and all the other admin stuff. Most of the new teachers are more competent on the keyboard than me and have a lot more teaching experience, so it's been great to pick their brains and learn from them, as well as the program manager maestro. They are really supportive to the new teachers and it's great to be in an environment where it's ok to make mistakes as it's expected at first before we get used to teaching!!

I get nervous when I'm put on the spot sometimes and today we had to act as grade two students to get used to the format of the lessons. I was asked a pretty simple question about what a certain note on the stave was, probably the difficulty of a question like 1+1 = 2, but I answered "3" and everyone else thought I was acting as the grade 2. Little did they know I wasn't.

I ceased to be a Victorian cricket player late last week which is a pretty big change for me as that had been a big part of my life for seven years. It was a hard and long decision making process but in the end it was the right thing to do. I will miss it, but I also know my heart isn't in it as much as it used to be.

One last thing I have to mention is that I wrote my first letter to the editor last week and both the Herald Sun and the Age published it. Dad used to be a regular writer to the papers and it took him two years to get into the Age, and I got in first time. hehehe. Then again he wrote all these really intelligent letters, I just wrote about "Big Brother".

until next time
cheers,
Ingrid:)
